Founding Executive Committee Member

Center for Community Wealth

project management ~ program ideation ~ website design & development ~ social media ~ partnership development

As a founding member of the executive committee, I participated in the initial thinking, coalescing and ideation of the organization. I was also integrally involved in creating the position description and hiring of the first Executive Director. I created and maintained the first website and social media presence for the Network.  The Network is a partnership of multiple Denver Metro organizations and individuals committed to moving forward economic strategies that will lift all communities.

*Founding Coordinator

Sustainable North City Park

project management ~ civic engagement ~ program ideation ~ website design & development

The City of Denver's Department of Environmental Health solicited proposals from neighborhoods across Denver to participate in a pilot program, the Sustainable Neighborhoods Network.  I saw this as an opportunity to combine two of my passions--community building and sustainability--so, with the support of the North City Park Civic Association Board of Directors, I submitted a proposal.  North City Park was one of three neighborhoods selected and Sustainable North City Park was born. Throughout the first year and a half, we focused on building community and neighborhood beautification.  We hosted a Summer Sustainability Fest, several workshops, started the time bank, and installed two Back Alley Art Galleries.  In January 2015, we reached the 100 credit mark and attained the status of Outstanding Sustainable Neighborhood. In October 2015, our Back Alley Art Gallery project was nominated for a Mayors Award.

Co-Coordinator & Fund Development

Code for Denver (Code for America local chapter)

project management ~ fundraising ~ program ideation ~ partnership development

The mission of Code for America is to strengthen communities through innovative technology solutions.  In 2015, Code for Denver partnered with the City of Denver, Colorado Anti-Violence Program, Rocky Mountain Micro-Finance Institute, Fresh Food Connect, and Rocky Mountain Farmers Union to address challenges with technology.  As a member of the coordinating committee, I recruited non-profit partners and helped facilitate the d.school design-thinking exercise at the kick-off event.  I was Product Owner in our Agile/Scrum environment and liaison to the broader community.  Our partnership with Fresh Food Connect created a successful proof-of-concept which helped the organization secure $100,000 to fully build out their app for collecting food by bicycle from home gardeners and delivering to local food banks and other distributors.

*Founding Coordinator

Dane County Women's Cancer Control Program

When Dane County Public Health Department was awarded a federal grant to coordinate a breast and cervical cancer screening program for low-income, under-served women, I was hired to get it off the ground.  I initiated partnerships with every hospital and health care provider in the county.  I called and facilitated meetings, created the eligibility and reimbursement process, promoted the program at health fairs, interfaced with the media, managed the grant and wrote the re-application for continued funding.

*Founding Coordinator

Families Learning Together Homeschool Cooperative

When I moved to Waco, as a homeschooling parent, I was dismayed to find that all of the homeschool support groups required members to sign a statement of faith in order to join.  My family did not agree with the very limiting statement, so I started an inclusive group.  From that group, an educational cooperative was born.  A dozen families co-managed and shared in the teaching of the children. For fifteen years, the Coop was a place for families to learn and play together in an inclusive environment.

*Facilitator

Joining Forces for Families
United Way of Dane County, Madison WI

The United Way of Dane County realized that improving communication among service providers in low-income communities and between the service providers and community residents would make life in the neighborhood better.  I was contracted to facilitate weekly meetings of service providers (school nurse, social worker, public health nurse, police officer), as well as meetings with community residents.  I also hired a resident from the low-income neighborhood to take my place as facilitator.  In three months, I got the program off the ground and hired and trained a single mother from the neighborhood to take my place as facilitator.
